Weathered Rock Storm The Bill At Whitehaven

The boys blasted through 30 minutes of high energy rock on Saturday, to a few thousand appreciative rockers at Whitehaven Recreation ground, in support of Status Quo.  Following Gobstopper (who's shortened set allowed WR to play longer than expected), the band opened with Hollywood Dreamer from their self penned Resistance is Futile... album.  The original opener, although a risk, was well received and led into a great rendition of Crossroads.  The band then stepped up a gear into Whole Lotta Rosie, getting the crowd really going.  This led to an impromptu showcasing of Ugly Kid Joe's Everything About You and a storming version of Li'l Devil by the Cult, which lifted the crowd to even greater heights.

The best was saved for last however, when original show closer Alright Now yielded such a great response (with the crowd singing the chorus at the top of their voices) that the shows organisers asked the band to play another song to close the set - which brought an enormous cheer from the assembled throng!!!  Keeping with Free, they closed out with Wishing Well to tumultuous applause.

The feedback after the set was fantastic - bring on next year!!

Quotastic News For Weathered Rock

The band have been selected to play on The Status Quo bill at Whitehaven Rugby League ground on 2 August 2008.  Lead singer Pete Lutwyche said, "This is unbelievable.  If someone would have said when we first got together that we'd be on an outdoor gig bill with the Quo inside three years, we'd have had them locked up!  What a boost for local bands and for us it's an incredible opportunity.  Let's hope all of our local support turn out and make it a great Cumbrian event.  I'm off to practice!"

The boys are also busy lining up the rest of the 2008 gig schedule - look out for updates on the 'On The Road' page

Some people will do anything to get a photo with a famous guitarist - Part 1

Look here, Michael Schenker came all the way to Workington just to have his photo taken with Paul Nichol!!!

If you look closely, you'll even see that he's trying to stab Paul in the left hand to eliminate the competition.

Look out for the band's next gig at Hensingham Rugby Club.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you hear WR on the radio on Sunday morning.  Broadcast to a world-wide audience (through the power of the internet) the band had their first ever air play, when (Standing On) Top Of The World was played on BBC radio!  What next.....MTV?  Grammy's?  The sky's the limit.

To keep their feet firmly on planet earth, the band play the Brown Cow in Cockermouth on Saturday at 9pm, where they're promising to play a brand new original.

See you there.

Late addition - we've just had our 2000th hit on the site.  Thanks and keep visiting.

****Happy New Year to all the bands fans from the band and all the staff at Weatheredrock.com.****

2007 promises to be a great year as it will see the band release their long awaited CD's.  Early Spring should see a CD of original material (some of which is demo'd on the Songs page) which may contain a few surprises, with a CD of covers also being made available.  Keep posted for developments.

The first gig of 2007 is also less than two weeks away with the band working hard to put some new material in.

Thanks to everyone who supported us over the last two years - see you soon.

Falcon Club on Friday for a Charity Do!  Bring plenty of cash and have a great time.  To aid the fun, Pete's asked for us to print the lyrics to Dancing in The Moonlight so you can all join in.  Here goes:-

First Verse

When I passed you in the doorway you took me with a glance

I should have took that last bus home but i asked you for a dance

Now we go steady to the pictures I always get chocolate stains on my pants

And my father's going crazy he says I'm livin in a trance

Second Verse

It's three o'clock in the morning and I'm on the streets again

I disobeyed another warning I should have been in by ten

Now I won't get out until Sunday I'll have to say I stayed with friends

Oh but it's a habit worth forming if it means to justify the ends

Scream it out!

See ya Friday

12th October 2006

The band have just finished their second recording session Tom Tyson's Music Farm recording studio.  To add to the five songs previously recorded (clips on the Home page) they've recorded six new, original songs.  These are presented as clips on this web site as a background to the Songs page.  Enjoy, and look out for two albums early next year.

Big thanks again to Tom for a superb job - they can't wait until the next session in November.

Finally, don't forget the next gig at the Fletcher Christian in a weeks time.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Unfortunately Pete Lutwyche was involved in a serious road accident late last week, and although he has no major injuries, he isn't able to perform this week, so we've had to cancel the Yankees gig.  Hope he's well soon.

18th September 2006

What a night at the Mariners Inn.  A packed house and a fantastic reception.  We can't wait to get back.  The hospitality was first class and the atmosphere superb.

Check out the new photos from Redmain 2006 - courtesy of Neil Franklin (Ross Halfin eat your heart out!)

See you all at Yankees.

3rd September 2006

Just under a week to the next big event - a gig at the prestigious Mariners Inn in Bowness.  The band are putting together a two and a half hour spectacular for the night which will begin around 10pm and finish at 1am.  Look out for the return of a couple of old favourites and a few originals as well as the usual crowd pleasers.

Finally, look out for some stunning pics on the photos pages in the next week or so, from the Redmain festival.

24th August 2006

Two days to go the out-door event of the year.  A private fundraising event is taking place in Redmain on Saturday and Weathered Rock are among four band appearing at the event that they solo'd at last year.  It promises to be a great night with Jazztastic, Banjaxed, Solway Blues Band and WR all playing.  WR are being joined on stage by a couple of special guests, so look out for something a little different.

If you're invited along, don't forget your cash for the auction.

12th August 2006

Tonight's gig at the White Star is the first for the band for seven weeks and they're itching to get going.  The lay off for holidays and the like has also allowed some work on new material.  Most of the focus has been on original stuff in preparation for the studio later in the year, but there are three new covers in the set tonight and the resurrection of an old crowd favourite.  Also look out for the new gear (again!), Paul's amp, Dave's shiny new Music Man bass, and the usual 'fashion show'!!!

See ya later.

27th July 2006

It's a 'bitter/sweet' news item today.  Unfortunately the band have had to withdraw from the Blues Festival appearance at the weekend.  Sorry for any disappointment but they'll be back out on 12 August at the White Star.

On the positive side, it's great to see the web site pass 1000 hits - boosted recently by the article in the 'News.  The boys are delighted and will ensure the site gets even better.

See you at the White Star.

3rd July 2006

Great news.  The superb performance at the Maryport Blues Festival battle of the bands obviously struck a chord with the organisers and the band have been invited to play on 'The Music Bus' in the town on 29 July 2006 at 6:30 for an hour.  The boys are really up for it and will deliver a set fit for the occasion.  You have been warned!!

The gig guide has also been updated with all the up-coming shows.  See 'On The Road'.

24th June 2006

Well, what a night.  On the back of a great article in the Whitehaven News (thanks to Hillary and Gillian) the gig last night at the Paul Jones was one of the best the band can remember.  The punters in the pub were clearly up for a show and the band didn't disappoint.  Preparing the ground through a 13 song first set, the audience were whipped into a frenzy of singing, dancing and cheering in the second 14 song set, culminating with a new rendition of Whitesnake's Here I Go Again, which the crowd sang above the band.  The night was rounded off with Sweet Child... and JBG.

The boys were blown away with the reception and pass on their thanks to anyone who was there, especially the loyal crowd of usual suspects (you know who you are!).  Robbo said he'd not seen anything like it in all his time playing (see the interviews page to see just how long that is!).

Unfortunately the holiday season takes over now and the band won't be playing again until 12 August (see On The Road) - see you in Maryport for another wild night and don't forget, when you see Weathered Rock....

Resistance Is Futile.................You WILL Be Entertained!

See ya'll soon!

26th May 2006

It's here.  Finally the interview you've all been waiting for.  Robbo's life story now on the interview page....Read and weep!

21st May 2006

The Interviews page has been updated again with the Pete Lutwyche Interview.  Watch out next week for the one you've all been waiting for .....Robbo!

4th May 2006

The Interviews page has been updated with some words from Mr Polkey.

21st April 2006

The Jones gig was a huge success.  Pete could have done nothing in the last set - the crowd did the singing.  An excellent night all round and they're back there in June.

The last week has seen an originals frenzy.   The band have finished off You're My Rock, almost finished Havin' the Time Of Our Lives and Pete and Paul are working on two more new numbers (Without You and Hard Hearted) to add to those already in the mixer.  Look out for live airings soon.  They've also worked on another Bon Jovi number that's sure to be a winner.

The Interviews page was launched last week and will be updated every week or so - keep tuned.

(Weathered) Rock on!

7th April 2006

After a storming last minute gig at the Black Bull in Cockermouth last Saturday, the band play their first gig in Whitehaven town centre tonight at the Paul Jones.  It promises to be a special occasion with the boys playing three sets for the first time.  Front man Pete Lutwyche has promised that the band will rock the Jones more than it's ever been rocked before so look out for an electric performance!

Finally, keep an eye on the site for a new Band Interviews page that will be appearing in the next few weeks, containing interviews with each of the band members.

19 March 2006

The band have been in the recording studio at The Music Farm for the last two days laying down their first five tracks with producer Tom Tyson - an original and four covers.  There's a short clip of each song playing when you open the home page on this site.  Enjoy and look forward to the completed CD later in the year.

The band want to thank Tom for his enthusiasm and professionalism in helping them to achieve a stunning result.

4 February 2006

The band played a storming set at the Battle of the Bands, opening with Wishing Well then through two new songs, Gary Moore's Still Got the Blues and the blues classic, Crossroads - given the WR treatment.  Unfortunately the boys lost out to Maryport band Lesser Concern, who themselves played a fine set of more modern songs.

The band were overwhelmed by the support of some stalwart fans who'd come to cheer them along.  Apologies if I've missed anyone but thanks to Avril, Carol, Nicola, Anne, James, Becca, Stephen, and Peter, but especially to Marian and Andrew Smith, Sal and Tony Calvin, Mike and Sue Travis (and Isaac), Jon and Maureen Seddon, Angela Sherwen, Steve Bruce, Liz Wareing and (of course) Weathered Rock's 5th man, Peter Rooke.  We'll maybe get a chance to play in one of the circuit pubs around the festival.

Once again thanks and don't forget the next gig on 18th February.

2 February 2006

Tomorrow is the big day for Battle of the Bands.  The band are ready to give it their all in their 15 minute slot, and are looking forward to seeing their fans again.  They will be playing one familiar number and two new one's, both calssic blues songs given the Weathered Rock treatment.  Best of luck to all competeing and let rock and have some fun.

21 January 2006

weatheredrock.com is launched onto the world!

Saturday 21 January 2006 saw the official launch of weatheredrock.com, the bands web site.  The site will be developed over the next few weeks to cover all aspects of life on planet Weathered Rock.  Stay tuned.

The boys played to a sell out crowd at the Marchon on Friday, and gave one of their best performances, storming through nearly two and a half hours of classic rock.  The audience were in great voice, singing along to all the favourites and giving the band the sort of  feedback that spurs any band on to a great performance.  The event was a charity night to raise money for the trust fund of the son of a colleague who had sadly died before his son was born.  The night was a great success.

Looking to the future, the band compete in a battle of the bands event on February 3rd at the Grasslot Club in Maryport, with the prize of the opening slot at this years prestigious Maryport Blues Festival.  The bands slot is at 8 O'Clock.  Any fans wanting to come and support are very welcome, with audience voting counting towards the final verdit.  The boys are currently rehearsing their 15 minute slot.  See you there.
